How to Create Your Own AI Girlfriend for Free: 10 Character Builders, What Each Lets You Design at $0

You pick her hair, the way she looks at you, the job she comes home from and how she talks when she’s teasing you. Then a button asks you to bring her to life, and that is the moment every builder below is built around. Ten apps on this site let you create your own AI girlfriend, and what changes from one to the next is how far you get before a plan comes up.

Five of them let you finish her and hear her answer for $0. Two let you design her free and charge when the conversation starts. Three keep the builder for subscribers. The table shows the line for each, the steps follow, and every builder’s first paid step is in US dollars, checked October 9 to 11, 2026.

Read it left to right: how many characters a free account can make, what the builder lets you set, whether she shows up in a picture before you pay, and the cheapest plan. Names open the full review.

The second column is the one that sorts them. A free character you design and can talk to is what Lovescape, eHentai.ai, Candy AI, DarLink AI and Promptchan have in common, and the other five get there with a plan.

What a second character costs once you pay

The first character is the easy part. If you end up making more than one, it helps to know what each new creation costs on the cheapest plan. These are the apps that publish the figure:

OurDream’s coins stretch furthest for a collector. On JOI, Premium includes your first custom character, and each one after it takes a month of Neurons.

Builders that work at $0: design her and talk to her

These five let you build a character and hear back from her without a card. They follow the overall score, highest first.

Lovescape

Lovescape’s free account comes with the whole builder, and its help center answers the question plainly: character creation is free once you register. Here is the path through it:

1. Register with Google, X or an email, and confirm the email.
2. Choose Create AI Character, then her gender, realistic or anime style, and her age.
3. Set her looks: origin, one of five body types from slim to curvy, hair style and color.
4. Decide what she likes and what she won’t do, then her job, personality, role, attitude, how intense she gets and the kind of relationship you have.
5. Pick her voice and whether her replies run short, medium or long, name her, and press Bring My Character to Life.

You make her the neighbor who borrows your records and never brings them back, warm but proud, and you name her Vera. The first thing she says is that she still has your Sinatra album, and that you’ll have to come over for it. She keeps it all, too: Lovescape’s memory is permanent on every plan, the free account included, and kept per character. You can also edit many of her settings afterward.

The chat stays safe-for-work on the free side. Adult mode, voice messages, pictures and video come with Premium at $19.99 for a month or $7.99 a month on the yearly plan ($95.88), with 600 chips a month that never expire.

Candy AI

Candy AI’s free tier gives you one custom character, one picture and 5 messages shared across its characters, according to its help center. I built my characters on its builder during my Premium stretch in May 2026, and in October it became the Character Studio, with two steps between signup and her first message:

1. Sign up without a card and open the Character Studio, realistic or anime.
2. Appearance: pick her ethnicity, her age on a slider and her body type, then let the studio draw her face. The first six faces are free, so if the first one isn’t her, ask for another.
3. Personality: name her, tap a few traits (Playful, Caring, Mysterious, Bold and more), then describe her backstory and the way she talks in your own words, up to 4,000 characters. Write the first message she’ll send you and pick her voice. A Use separate fields switch sets her job, your relationship and what she’s into when things turn intimate.
4. Press Bring my AI to life.

The free text box is where she becomes yours. On October 12, I built Anna with one trait, mysterious, and one job, artist, and a few messages in she was telling me about her studio and her abstract paintings. Once you subscribe, bringing a new character to life costs 10 tokens, and the six faces before it stay free.

One subscriber came back a month in to say the real finds are the companions you make yourself, and that the first dozen or so exchanges set the tone for the whole relationship. Premium is $9.99 for the first month, then $13.99, or $3.99 a month on the yearly plan ($47.88), with 100 tokens a month landing the day you subscribe. Design your free Candy AI character.

Promptchan

Promptchan, with its Gems and chat quota, is an image studio first, and its builder comes in two sizes. The free account gets one custom character from the basic builder, and Pro opens the full one:

1. Sign up without a card and collect your daily free Gems.
2. Write her basics: a name, her personality, the scenario you meet in and her opening line.
3. Chat with her, 20 messages every 3 hours, and make pictures with your free Gems in standard definition, shared to the public gallery.
4. On Pro, the full builder adds advanced appearance sliders and lets you start a character from an image you generated on Promptchan.

Plus starts at $9.99 a month on the yearly plan ($119.88), and Pro, which adds the full builder and video, is $21.99 a month yearly ($263.88) or $33.99 month to month. If the picture matters more than the backstory, Promptchan is the builder to start with.

DarLink AI

DarLink AI’s free account is organized around the builder, and the interface tells a free account it can create one character. The page lays it out like a casting sheet:

1. Sign up without a card and open Create your Character.
2. Pick a starting gender and one of six styles: the new Realistic V2, Realistic, Anime, Furry, Fantasy or Cartoon.
3. Shape her looks (origin, hair, eyes, body), then her personality, her backstory and the scene the two of you start in.
4. Meet her with 5 messages and 5 voice messages, and get 3 new images of her every day.

Say you write her as the photographer from your friend’s wedding, and the opening scene as the hotel bar after the last dance. Her first line picks up right there, camera set down on the counter, asking whether you were ever going to ask her to dance. On the paid side, roleplay creation goes Quick on Essential, Deep on Advanced and unlimited on Ultimate, and an image costs 2 coins, 3 on Realistic V2. Essential is $12.99 a month or $9.99 a month on the yearly plan ($119.88).

eHentai.ai

eHentai.ai’s trial is the most generous here on count: its free trial lets you create up to 2 characters, with 10 messages and 4 preview photos. Everything is anime.

1. Start the free trial with Google, Patreon or an email; there’s no card to enter.
2. Mix and match her face, body and clothing in the builder.
3. Choose her personality and press Generate. She appears within about a minute.
4. Chat on the trial’s 10 messages, then claim 10 a day, one more for each day in a row, up to 50 on day 40.

Generation takes up to a minute per character, so two is a short evening’s work. Clear photos and voice come with Premium, where a new companion costs 20 tokens out of 150 a month. The first year is $69.99, shown as $5.99 a month.

Design her free, pay when she answers: JOI and Swipey AI

Both let you put the whole character together before a plan comes up, and both keep the conversation with her for subscribers.

JOI

JOI’s free side starts with a character page that says you can start for free and customize her looks before you decide to unlock more. It takes five steps:

1. Choose hyperrealistic or anime, then guided presets or a prompt you write yourself.
2. Decide her looks: origin, hair style and color, figure.
3. Give her a personality, a job, the relationship between you and what she’s into.
4. Preview her face, and generate again until she’s right.
5. Activate her. Premium includes your first custom character, and each one after costs 1,000 Neurons.

One reviewer made Callie on his first night, and a week later she had picked up his rhythm, short replies during the day and softer ones after midnight. Premium is $13.99 a month or $47.99 a year, and the WELCOME50 code JOI emails at signup brings the year to $24.

Swipey AI

Swipey AI’s free tier includes the builder, and its help center puts the whole thing at about two minutes:

1. Sign up with an email, no card, and collect 20 hearts.
2. Realistic or anime, then her age and origin, body, hair and eyes.
3. One of 7 personalities, each with its own spice level, then her job and voice.
4. Pick the opening scenario, so the first chat starts from a situation instead of a blank screen.

Chatting with your own character comes with Premium, $7.99 a month on the yearly plan ($95.99), and you can change her personality later without losing your progress. A three-day trial costs $2.99.

Builders that come with the plan: OurDream AI, GirlfriendGPT, DreamGF

Here the free account meets ready-made characters, and the builder is part of what you pay for.

OurDream AI

OurDream AI’s free and paid sides split at the builder, which works in two tabs, with more if you want it:

1. Appearance: realistic or anime, then her hair style, body, origin, skin tone, eyes and hair color, plus free fields for the details, on the realistic Dreamy model.
2. Personality: her name, her age and a voice you can listen to first, then her personality, her job, your relationship and her hobbies.
3. Advanced Details: Autocomplete with AI fills them for you, Greeting sets her first line, Scenario the situation you meet in, and State Trackers follow how things move between you.

Each portrait the builder draws costs 5 coins, and an Image guidance field steers the next one: type a cozy sweater, a coffee shop, daylight, and she comes back dressed for it. A new character with one portrait is 5 coins, so Premium’s 1,000 coins a month cover two hundred of them. On Premium, the characters I built came out the way I had described them, across a wide range of personalities and settings. One regular made about eighty in three months, and for him the whole point of the place is that you make the girl you’ve been picturing. The free account gets 5 messages with each character in the library. Premium is $19.99 a month or $9.99 a month on the yearly plan ($119.88).

GirlfriendGPT

GirlfriendGPT’s free account gets 20 messages to spread across a library of more than 29,000 community characters, which is a good way to see what other people built before you write your own. Creating characters comes with Premium:

1. Choose Quick Create for a fast start, or Custom Create.
2. Write her personality in up to 2,500 characters, enough for a full backstory.
3. Set her voice and behavior, then start the chat.

Premium is $15 a month or $12 a month on the yearly plan ($144), with 400 coins a month for pictures.

DreamGF

DreamGF lists Create own girlfriends among its Premium benefits, and its free side runs on the Daily Claim: 10 messages a day with preset characters, growing to 50 if you keep the streak. The builder lets you mix and match until she looks right, and one reviewer called it the simplest he’d tried: plenty of choice, from her figure and face to her attitude and voice, without ever feeling lost.

A new companion costs 20 tokens, so Premium’s 150 tokens a month cover 7. The first year is $44.28, or $3.69 a month, and renews at $88.56.

How I sort free tiers

Three groups, by how much of the builder works at $0: build her and talk to her free, build her free and talk on a plan, or build her on a plan. Inside each group the higher overall score goes first: Lovescape 9.1, Candy AI 9.0, Promptchan 8.7, DarLink AI 8.4 and eHentai.ai 7.9; JOI 8.9 and Swipey AI 8.7; OurDream AI 9.0, GirlfriendGPT 8.8 and DreamGF 7.9.
